It isn’t easy being green

In search of classics to surprise our vocal teacher (and my neighbours *cough*) I remembered a song from the Muppet Show Movie that I loved as a kid. As it happens Ray Charles did a version which is the best ever ever… ever!

As this performance is very rare, I reckoned the tabs would be non-existant so I transcribed it myself and hopefully it doesn’t offend the original arranger (Ray himself?).

I kept the chords in their logical musical function (jazz progression) rather than construct them for easy playing. Now go practice your Kermit impersonation! ;)

"It isn't easy being green"
As performed by Ray Charles

Composer:      Joe Raposo
Transcription: J. Krosenbrink

Intro: 2x | Eb6sus2 -      |

| Eb6sus2 -      | Bb+/D   -   | DbMaj13 - | C7     - |
| Fm      FmM7/E | Bb11/Eb Bb9 | Eb6sus2 - | Bb+9/E - |

It's not that easy being green
Having to spend each day, in the color of the leafs
When I think it could be so much nicer
Being red, yellow or gold
Or something much more colorful, like that

| Eb6sus2 -      | Bb+/D -     | DbMaj13 - | C7     - |
| Fm      FmM7/E | Bb11  Bb9 | Eb      - | EbMaj7 - |

No it is not that easy being green
It seems, you blend in with so many other ordinary things
And people tend to pass you over
'Cause you're not standing out like flashy sparkles on the water
Or stars, in the sky

| Cm/Ab -         | Fm/Db    -    | Eb        -  | Fm/D   D°/G |
| Cm    CmMaj7    | Cm7      F13 | AbMaj7/Bb -  | Db7 -    |

But green is the color of spring
And green can be cool and friendly-like
And green can be big like an ocean
Very important like a mountain
Or tall like a tree

| Gb    -         | GbMaj7/F -       | Gb7/E -  | Eb7       -   |
| Abm   AbmMaj7/G | Abm7/Gb  Db13->Db|...| Gb  -  | Abm/Gb    -   |  Gb   -   |

And when green is all there is to be
It can make you, wonder why
But why wonder why wonder I am green
And it will do fine 'cause it's beautiful
And I think that's what I, wanna be

(That's what I wanna be, yes)
